If they ever produce a remake, be sure they'll slap a premium on the sticker there - otherwise they'd be missing an opportunity. Citroen has been itching to do the same with the 2CV, they just haven't...

Citroen has been itching to do the same with the 2CV, they just haven't got the right prototype yet. Hence Renault taking the crowdsourcing approach. The future "classic" affordable cars are being produced and driven around as we speak, they just haven´t gathered the retrospective nostalgia and patina required. To put it another way, we don't recognize them yet, because they still have to go through the test of time as adventure cars, family cars, hand-offs from parents, & so on... and modern cars don't go through such long production cycles, which doesn't help with reaching icon status. Well, my 2cents anyway.

Oh and by the way: a "new" Renault 4 has been around for 14 years: drumroll... the Kangoo! An affordable, practical, "reasonable" car, a true spiritual successor: www.autoviva.com/renault_kang...

This in turn is an update from the Renault Express, which modernized the 4 sometime in the 80's but kept it to the commercial vehicle "underground". So there.

I learned to drive on this one. I don't think it will translate as well as the Mini or 500 which had that ultra-compact, "cuteness" design factor, still curious though
