When racing was for talented, brave amateurs.
Here is a fantastic historic video from Road America in 1959. The audio unfortunately is not fantastic. It is mono sound and only comes out of the left speaker. The actual footage is fantastic though.
The films goes back to a day when most racers were amateurs. Most of the cars were home modified and some were driven to the race track.
The other fantastic thing about the video is its writing. It is almost poetic, even if it is spoken by a guy who sounds like he is from a Home Etc training video.
