Mazda launches MX-5 RF in New York

Hardtop variant features a new fastback styling

with a retractable rooftop. With the launch of the “retractable fastback” MX-5 Mazda keeps true to the purpose of the previous retractable hardtop MX-5 which is to make the roadster experience accessible to a broader range of drivers.

To create the MX-5 RF Mazda decided to think out of the box and design something entirely new. By doing so the brand gave the roadster a fastback styling with a smooth roofline that slopes down to the rear. This hands the car a distinctive new convertible feeling.

The electric rooftop can be opened and closed on the run only by pressing a button at speeds of up to 10km/h. The roof will fold compactly and efficiently without compromising the boot space, which is the same as the soft-top model.

The new MX-5 RF will be available in Europe with a choice of two petrol engines, the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0, which may be combined with either a six-speed SKYACTIV-MT gearbox or with a six-speed automatic, exclusively for the hardtop variant.
